Data, Taxonomy & Infrastructure Provider Directory

Beta

Introduction

The Data, Taxonomy, and Infrastructure Provider Directory accompanies PEAK Grantmaking’s Data Next-Level Practices (NLPs). It features organizations that collect, manage, and share the data and taxonomies that support philanthropy’s information infrastructure.

The directory shows how these organizations are putting the practices into action and helps funders, nonprofits, and technology partners see how data providers are making social sector data more accessible, equitable, and reusable.

Each Profile Showcases:

A summary of the provider’s mission, data offerings, and geographic or thematic focus.
Details about available datasets, APIs, licensing models, and access methods, including transparency around pricing and terms of use.
Information about real-time data sharing capabilities (e.g., read/write APIs, webhooks, firehose feeds) and available documentation or developer resources.
How the organization enables nonprofits to access, update, and manage their data, ensuring ownership, clarity, and control over use.
Publicly shared governance policies, update cycles, and opportunities for stakeholders to provide input.
Which modern, common taxonomies the provider maintains or integrates (e.g., PCS, SDGs, Impact Genome, GeoNames) and how they support crosswalks to ensure interoperability.
Active partnerships with GMS vendors, funders, and other stakeholders to strengthen sector data flows and align with downstream needs.

By bringing this information together in one place, the directory helps illuminate the evolving landscape of data sources that power philanthropy—making it easier for funders and partners to:

  • Discover trusted data and taxonomy providers.
  • Identify opportunities for integration and reuse.
  • Encourage equitable pricing and open access to social sector data.
  • Build the connected, interoperable data infrastructure our sector needs to drive transparency, efficiency, and equity.

Editorial Notes

About the Directories
The NLPs are aspirational and forward-looking, designed to move the sector beyond current practice. Not all vendors or providers have adopted them yet, that’s expected. We encourage you to engage your chosen partners around the NLPs.

Join the Directories
We welcome and encourage new participants. Together, our community of GMS vendors and data providers are working to make philanthropy’s data more connected, equitable, and reusable. To get started, visit Join the Directories.
